The conundrum of blogs about books

Guest post written by Whitney Harris

I hate to admit that I read more blogs about books than books. I do love to read books, I always have. Some of my greatest memories growing up were going to the library with my mom and carrying a towering pile of books to our minivan, which I then picked through to decide just which book I’d start reading as soon as we got home. But then I grew up, life happened and I had less time to get lost in a book because of extracurricular activities, college and then later, work.

Then I discovered book blogs, which of course, made my “must-read” list grow by feet, but gave me an excuse not to actually read the titles because I already knew the main gist of them. I spend more time than I’d like to admit looking at them with my wild blue broadband internet. Yes, this totally defeats the purpose of reading, but when I do actually make the time to go and buy a book, I’ve vetted the title out of such a long list that I never end up hating it.

I don't want to sweat the small stuff

Changing my tune here...LOL! I actually bought a small book about learning not to sweat the small stuff. So that is what I have been reading lately and now trying hard to live and learn how to cope with the little imperfections in life. It is basically about being accepting of others and not make a big deal out of the little things that happens in daily life. I try not to be such a fussy person that takes things too seriously. Really, I am accepting and forgiving; I don't mind other people's imperfections (so surely, they can step on me all they want...aha-hah!). Well, kidding aside there, peeps! But I am learning that I should take everything as a lesson to learn from. We all live and learn anyway. We all need to suffer sometimes, right? It is what we call humility....LOL! Suck up whenever necessary...ah...LOL!
One thing I learned about working is that I must be humble and forgiving-if to say I really need the job...LOL! It is the truth! In the real world; if you hold an unskilled job, that is how you must conduct yourself. Now there are no two ways about it. That is as plain as I could put it. Working for somebody is one of the worst situations you can ever be in-and I found that out! The only way you can stay working is by being humble; you have to be the kind of person that has a lot of patience. Patience and humility are the keys to keeping an unskilled job. Reality can be brutall. It is the sad part of life which is why we must learn to cope with imperfections. Let's not sweat the small stuff! Being a better person is a choice-in my opinion that is! We decide!

Why Summer is Perfect for Baseball Lovers

This was written by guest blogger Steve Koleman

For many sports lovers, summertime is not boring time for sports. Football doesn’t start for another 3 months. Basketball season is over, and the Summer Olympics happen only once every four years. For me however, the summer is the best time for watching sports-especially major league baseball. Yes, during those blistering days of summer, there’s nothing better than sitting in the cool air-condition house, enjoying a beer and watching your favorite team play America’s favorite pastime. What makes baseball so great is the tradition, and excitement that goes with every single pitch. Unlike basketball, or football, one pitch, one catch, one hit can change an entire game.

Living here in Kansas City, I get to see all the Royals play on local television. However I was born and raised in Atlanta Georgia, so I’m a diehard Atlanta Braves fan. I’ve loved the Braves since I was a child, and grew up cheering for them and doing the “Tomahawk Chop”. Since the Braves aren’t shown locally, I catch a lot of their games on satellite tv. So while NFL fans are counting the days before football camp, and NBA fans are missing the basketball season, I relish the summertime because for once, I can concentrate on watching the best team in the world (Atlanta Braves) play the greatest sport in the world (baseball).

We were followed home

What a scary incident that just the other day there was a vehicle tailing us. It was awful that somebody might have been following us all the way home. We came home late in the evening as we stopped to get something to eat (and that I chose to work the second shift). According to my husband it had to be somebody following us home; turning on every street we turned to (not to mention driving with the lights off and only turned them on when a vehicle came towards us and off again) until we pulled in our yard. It shook us up and it reminded me that we need to make sure we have a good alarm security system. It would even be better if we can afford to have a security video camera installed at our house. That way we can capture our stalkers or whoever is lurking around our property. The thought of being burglarized is really terrifying to us. We have small children that we have got to be more efficient when it comes to protecting our family. Sometimes just when we think we are safe that is when bad things start to happen. In fact, we were rubbed once (that was at our old house back in California, U.S.A.). Our garage was broken into and we did not hear a thing at all even when our room was just next to our garage. That was something and it is amazing how careful the rubbers were not to make any kind of noise. Now we are worried that we could get rubbed again. We better see about security systems and be sure to find one that offer the best security coverage in our area. We also need to review an online home security backup battery and equipment guide so we are more prepared for emergency instances. I would not want to live where I do not have a security system. I can only feel safe and secured when I know my home is protected. My family comes first.

Dealing with toxic people

Working with the public makes me more aware of how people operate. What I mean is that not everybody can be polite. Unlike me I am always polite...LOL! I am fair and balance in all my dealings. I believe in fairness and equality. I am also tactful which helps people feel comfortable being around me. I am pleasant to work with and surely easy to get along with as well. Just don't betray me though because then I am as bad as I am good...LOL! You will find out that I do have a bad side...LOL! Nah...I am not scary. I only give silent treatment, yell at the top of my lungs if I have to and cry my heart out when I am upset...LOL! Anyway, let me pick up what I intended to write about, dealing with toxic people. Ah, I almost bought a book about "How to Deal with Toxic People". I thought I would need it, but nah...I think I have the energy to handle anything. I have thick skin after all; I mean face to withstand ignorant remarks...LOL! I got those remarks just from blogging and I survived it. I have nothing to fear nor to hide. Life is great when your conscience is clear. I am learning to co-exist with toxic people and try to avoid them as much as possible. What I basically need is to keep my mouth zipped up (shut); not to ever bother asking anybody a question especially if it is personal. I am learning my lessons and hopefully I am not endangering my job due to my curiosity. I realized how my curious nature could get me into all kinds of scrapes and troubles...LOL! I am better off saying nothing and just smile instead :).

I had just ate chocolates here but still managed to smile...LOL!

We need a new kitchen sink!

We are currently trying to finish renovating our house and one of the many things I would like to see replaced is our kitchen sink. We need a new kitchen sink that is more modern. I found some online and perhaps we are going to buy one of these stainless steel kitchen sinks soon. We could use a new faucet as well. Anyway, those sinks are on sale, so if we can save money we might be able to buy a whole lot more. We also appreciate it when we get the same day shipping and free strainer. The prices are low and since it sounds like a deal to me! I will definitely look into it because I would really like to have a stainless steel kitchen sink. It will enhance the look of our kitchen for sure.

Need to save money seriously

Hi everyone! How are you? Hey, I have been busy working and following up on my school. I will be a student this Fall and I am excited about this new phase of my life. School is fun for me and I hope it will be even if it means hard work, etc. I just like to get out there and meet new friends. Well, I don't really have friends; I mean best friends since I have not been very social. I would like to go out and hang out with friends but I am always causing inconvenience. I feel like I am an extra baggage to whoever I meet and become friends with because I don't drive yet. What a bummer and I will have to see to it that I save money. I will need to save money seriously. So if only I can learn to lay off shopping I could make it happen. I have got to because that is the only way I can gain my independence. It's actually that I won't be so dependent on others. I like to be self-sufficient. Financially I am more independent. I don't wait for someone to give me money but get out there and earn it when time permits me. Nobody really ever gave me money in a large amount just so I can shop. If ever it is borrowed rather than given to me. Now that I have all the time in my hands I am finally working and earning the money I need to be able to splurge. I like having money only I have trouble holding on to it for long...LOL! I need self-control and will-power to be able to save because I am definitely not a saver. Indeed money burns a hole in my pocket. Blah! I want to be rich!!! LOL!
